MinsGame 2019: Day 24

I did not get rid of this hardcover boxed set UK version of Harry Potter! I love it!

The Minimalism Game Day 24 was all about books. As anyone who goes through books knows, they can be exhausting to go through. Some books I have had since I was a teenager or even younger and seemed great 30-something years ago. But minimalism is more about the things that we hold onto than the things we shed. If I hold onto something, it means I value it in some way. Certain older series of children’s books, that were around a long time before I was born, contain vivid scenes of child abuse, as well as blatant racism. I may have fond memories of reading these when I was a child and didn’t understand or glossed over the aforementioned scenes, but I don’t need to subject my own kids to this or passively agree with it by having it in my environment.

So for Day 24, I got rid of all the books in that series, some other books on the author’s life (which seemed odd to keep after getting rid of the original volumes), one other children’s series I totally hate and won’t even allude to. That brings my total hated books to 18, so I sat down and went through the books I am ambivalent about and got rid of 6 more that I didn’t want to be sharing my environment  in the future. And I was so disgusted by the other two series that I didn’t want to take a photo.
